It’s not all about numbers…

It’s not all about numbers…

It’s about the feelings. The moments we share. The human connection. And all that happened before today. As our purpose is to be able to express who we really are, I’d love to share with you our story (in bullet points and numbers, J’aime beaucoup!)

My name is Tara (people used to called me Poupy, and on my ID card you will find Frederique). Let’s say that I had many lives in one, and my current is surely the most intense one, for that I think Tara is the name I need, so please call me Tara.

  • I was born in Paris in 1970, 2 months premature. Now you know, this impatience and the vintage vibe of the 70’s are a big part of our identity.
  • In 1974, I was 4 and not ready for hard and strong family storms. Making peace with it long time after, I realized that it was the name I unconsciously gave to this company. The magic power of resilience, isn’t it?
  • After studying mathematics, in 1992 I gave up and decide to be a fairy for kids’ birthdays by creating special events and precious childhood memories.
  • I was born 2 months earlier… And my little boy decided to make it double. In 1999, Zac was born with only 5 months, a life warrior with a gentle heart.
  • In 2002, the love between my little son and a baby elephant Dunah in Thailand, made this country my second home.
  • 6 years after, a magic encounter with a Tuk Tuk driver called Manop in Chiang Mai, marked the beginning of a soulful business relationship.
  • I was knitting blankets collecting vintage kids’ furniture and all day long when, in 2009 we had the chance to do our first trade show in Paris. A kind of unexpected success (I still feel shy about it) and oups! Here we go: Numero 74 was born.
  • The computer full of orders awaken the dream to create a very specific hand production process involving women (working at home, in jail and wherever this artisan know-how could be developed). Manop was the man, from tuk-tuk driver to CEO of our Thailand team, 1 big miracle became real…Kapkumka!
  • 2015: We decide to go organic (we heard about the suicide catastrophe of farmers in India due to high indebtedness…And it was more than enough).
  • In 2017 a big question arises: Why am I doing what I do? Designing, creating, producing, and selling… Is it meaning full enough even if we do it with ethics values? The answer was NO. It was about sharing and co creating. So, we created our Foundation, without clear vision in mind, just evidencing that something needed to be done.
  • Recognizing the healing power of handmade, in 2018 we launched a line of DIY Creative Kits call “Made By You”. Yes, as simple as it sounds: we can just do it (and we did it!).
  • In 2019 more dreams popped up and finally, I found the essence that guided me: human empowerment, personal growth and healing business. We opened L’atelier in Santa Gertrudis, Ibiza, a physical space to share, create and explore new ways of managing.
  • Until then, we never been in direct contact with any of you because we were distributing through B2B channels. In 2020, the world lockdown pushed us to launch our website and e-shop: a window to the world!
  • The end of 2021 and a burn out knocked me down. It was an intense year, the reality changed, and our activity was in jeopardy (and still it is).
  • 2022 The year of big revolutions, inside out. Let’s surf this intense wave with your support… And the opening of our new baby dream: “La Maison”. A few metres from L’atelier and a reset to go back to the start point, the passion for home décor.

During all these years, my life has been full of magic encounters who gave me the opportunity to grow, challenge myself, transform again and again, fail, stand up and never give up.

I would like to thank all these beautiful people who has been involved in this adventure: my family, our customers, partners, artisans, suppliers, creators, banks, lawyers… And especially our amazing team which is also changing, transforming, adapting, and supporting me in my very emotional crazy moments. People from all over the world with different cultures and dreams but the same little voice inside saying:

Let’s dream, let’s do, once and over again… Why?
Because we love it, and we believe we can do it.

And what about you? We’d love to know more…

We invite you to comment and share your thoughts and feelings, because that’s what is all about in the end (at the top of the blog).

We also hope to hear from you at: @numero74_official & @numero74_latelieribiza

And most of all… Thanks for being here!

Tara

    Hi there!

Great story and great products! The double gauze products, for bed time and clothing, is amazing… I am 300% sure my baby boy is sleeping that well thanks to n°74 products. Also, the smell of clothes is the best, the daddy is in love with it, please try to make a parfum of it :)

    Kindest regards,
    A huge fan customer
